Women's Leadership Programme Class 9 held at Coloba Municipal School
Printing Matter from Mrs. Bina Thadani – Chairperson, CCAC
The Women’s Leadership Programme, brought to Class 9 girls in two Mumbai schools, the Colaba Municipal School and The Udayachal School, Vikhroli ended in March with great success. The 4 - month programme was initiated and introduced to the schools by WGU’s Consumer and Civic Affairs Committee and was conducted by a team from the NGO Blue Ribbon Movement. About seventy class 9 girls in each school participated in this confidence and team building, leadership learning programme. Teams formed by the students took up an issue of concern as a project in their own community and school with much enthusiasm. They gave themselves imaginative names, such as Magical Stars, Girl Power, 6 Revolutionaries, Radars, etc. and gathered information on topics such as the laws concerning bullying, eve teasing and animal welfare, building awareness by speaking to their peers and community members on other issues such as safety, health and hygiene and saving water including teaching their mothers literacy enough to sign their names, instead of thumb printing their signatures. The best teams were awarded trophies but all the girl students had developed a new sense of their capabilities and confidence in their ability to make a change in their own lives and surroundings. In that lies the true success of this programme which the schools wish to continue with the next year’s class 9 batch.
